Use a clean dry cloth when necessary to keep the metal contacts of both charger and battery clean.

If a Ni-Cd or Ni-MH battery  sits idle for a too long a period of time conditioning may be necessary. Press the discharge button to discharge the 
battery prior to charging it, and repeat for 2-3 cycles to refresh the battery. If the battery is still not working properly, the battery may need to be 
replaced.
