Format internal memory or a 
memory card.  If a memory 
card is inserted in the cam-
era, 

b will be displayed in 

the dialog shown at right 
and this option will format the memory card.  If no 
memory card is inserted, 

a will be displayed and 

this option will format internal memory.  Press the 
selector left to highlight OK and press MENU/OK to 
begin formatting.

3 Cautions
• All data—including protected pictures—will be de-

leted.  Be sure important fi les have been copied to a 
computer or other storage device.

•  Do not open the battery cover during formatting.

M AUTO POWER OFF

Choose the length of time before the camera 
turns off  automatically when no operations are 
performed.  Shorter times increase battery life; if 
OFF is selected, the camera must be turned off  
manually.  Note that regardless of the option se-
lected, the camera will not turn off  automatically 
when connected to a printer (pg. 57) or computer 
(pg. 67) or when a slide show is in progress (pg. 
82).

2 Tip: Reactivating the Camera
To reactivate the camera after it has turned off  auto-
matically, use the 

G switch or press the a but-

ton for about a second (pg. 13).
