1080i(1125i)/480i(525i)
These are types of video signals. 1080i is 
a hi-vision image signal and 480i is a 
former image signal which is not hi-
vision. Depending on the equipment, 
1080i may be referred to as 1125i, and 
480i may be referred to as 525i.
Audio feedback
A screeching noise which may be 
produced when the camcorder is 
connected to a TV or speakers. To 
prevent the noise, keep a distance 
between the camcorder and the TV or 
speakers, or turn off the volume of the 
connected device.
Component jacks (Component 
video input jacks)
Connect the camcorder to a TV.
You can easily transmit a component 
video signal and control signals (aspect 
ratio, scan line, etc.) via the supplied 
component video cable.
Double-sided disc
A disc which allows recording on both 
sides.
Finalize
The process of enabling you to play back 
BD-R/DVD-RW (VF mode)/DVD-R 
recorded on this camcorder using other 
BD/DVD recorders/players.
Formatting
The process of preparing a disc for use by 
creating an empty file system. This is also 
known as initializing a disc.
HDMI output terminal
Connects the camcorder to a TV.
The HDMI output terminal provides 
better picture quality on the connected 
TV than the component jacks.
HD movie image quality/
 
HD image quality
Refers to hi-vision image quality. HD is 
an abbreviation for High Definition. 
NTSC
NTSC is one of the standard color 
television systems.
NTSC is in use in the United States, 
Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, the 
Philippines, Central and South America, 
and some other countries.
PAL
PAL is one of the standard color 
television systems.
PAL is in use in Europe, China, and some 
other countries.
SD memory card
A memory card standard for recording 
images. This camcorder allows for 
recording still images to SD memory 
card.
SD movie image quality/
 
SD image quality
Refers to an image quality standard that 
is not hi-vision. SD is an abbreviation for 
Standard Definition. 
Single-sided disc
A disc which allows recording on one 
side only.
