Delayed Deck Engagement

Product:  Groundsmaster 4500 & 4700-D

May 7, 2008

Affected Units:

Models:
30856
30868
Serial Numbers:
230000101 – 260000526
230000101 – 260000279
Situation:
Equipment operators may report an abnormally long delay in the engagement of the cutting
decks on 2003 and newer GM 4500 and 4700-D units.  This delay can extend engagement of
the decks for 30 seconds or more, and may be intermittent.  Normal deck engagement time is
approximately 1.5 to 3 seconds.
The cause for the delay may be an internal malfunction inside the Standard Control Module
(SCM).  If the SCM is identified to be the source of the problem, a replacement SCM along with
a PTO Converter Harness will be required to correct the issue.
Diagnostic Information:
Remove the Operator’s Console Cover on the right side of the machine.  While sitting in the
seat, turn the key to the On position, but do not start engine.  Turn on the PTO Switch and
observe the LED Lights on the Standard Control Module (SCM). The PTO Input light will
illuminate (on the SCM) but the PTO Output light does not light (or the Ramp-Up Module) for up
to 30 seconds or more.   Review the machine Operators Manual and the picture below for
additional details.
Repair Instructions:
A replacement SCM (106-9277) and a PTO Converter Harness (110-8839) are required.  The
SCM is faulty and the Converter Harness will help keep the problem from reoccurring.
Special Note:
A PTO Converter Harness can be installed on a properly operating unit.  Installation of this
harness will ensure the delayed engagement issue does not occur.  For additional information
