Overview
TP-LINK’s  WEB  Smart  Gigabit  Switch  TL-SL2218WEB  is  a  cost-
effective networking solution for growing businesses and adding
multimedia applications. It is equipped with (16) 10/100 BASE-TX
ports,  (1)  10/100/1000  BASE-T  UTP/STP  RJ45  port  with  auto-
MDI/MDIX and (1) SFP independence expansion slot supporting
MiniGBIC  modules.  The  TL-SL2218WEB  delivers  a  high  perfor-
mance feature set sufficient to monitor and secure a SMB network
efficiently. It provides Smart features that are ideal for simple QoS
applications, such as IPTV, VoIP.
Smart Features
The auto features of this switch make installation plug & play and
hassle-free. Auto-MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminates the
need  for  crossover  cables  for  connection  to  another  switch  or
hub.  Auto-Negotiation  on  each  port  senses  the  link  speed  of  a
network device (either 10 or 100 or 1000) and intelligently adjusts
for  compatibility  and  optimal  performance.  The  TL-SL2218WEB
also  features  diagnostic  LEDs,  which  display  status  and  activity,
allowing  you  to  quickly  detect  and  correct  problems  on  the
network. It features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture with
an  7.2Gbps  switching  capacity  for  maximum  data  throughput.
With  wire-speed  filtering  and  store-and-forward  switching,  the
Web-Smart  switch  also  maximizes  network  performance  while
minimizing the propagation of bad network packets.
Excellent QoS Performance
Businesses  are  recognizing  the  benefits  of  doing  Voice  over  IP
(VoIP) and are quickly migrating their voice services to IP based
platforms,  requiring  their  local  area  networks  to  support  both
voice  and  data  applications.  In  unmanaged  IP  networks,  burst
data  sessions  can  disrupt  voice  packet  delivery,  causing  poor
voice  quality. With  the  enhanced  QoS  and  traffic  management
features  in  the  TL-SL2218WEB,  voice  data  can  be  prioritized,
ensuring clear and reliable voice communications.
IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging and MTU VLAN supported
Network security is a top priority in any size business. VLANs allow
the network to be segmented into groups (Departmental, Hierar-
chical,  and  Security  Groups).  It  enhances  the  security  of  a
network. 802.1Q is a standard that places a “tag” in a frame identi-
fying which VLAN it belongs to. The advantage of this is that all
802.1Q  compliant  devices  can  work  seamlessly  together  to
manage VLAN  traffic.  In  addition,  MTU VLAN  enables  each  user
port and the uplink port in the same VLAN.
