3. Select Enable Media Lifecycle Management to enable MLM, and then
select the media lifecycle management events for which you want
alerts.
Note:
MLM compatible media has been available from Spectra Logic
since November 2007. If you began using MLM-capable media
and cleaning cartridges before BlueScale MLM became available,
some of your media may have already exceeded the thresholds
you set.
Generate a Load Count Media Lifecycle Report to display the
current usage status of the media in your library (see
 for detailed
information).
4. Select Save to enable Media Lifecycle Management and the types of
alerts and warning messages it generates.
Important
Before enabling (or disabling) MLM, make sure that all of the drives in the library
are empty.
Option
Description
Enable Alerts for
Non-Certified Media
Generates an alert message when tapes that are not Spectra Logic certified
media are loaded into a tape drive.
Enable Alerts for
Load Count
Discrepancies
Generates an alert message when the load count for the cartridge stored in the
MLM database differs from the load count stored on the cartridge memory
chip.
Minimum Cleaning
Passes Before
Warning
Sets the threshold for the minimum number cleaning passes remaining on a
cleaning cartridge. The default value is zero (0).
When a cleaning cartridge reaches threshold, a warning message is generated
showing that the cleaning cartridge is nearly expended. The warning message
is generated every time the cleaning tape is used while the number of cleans
remaining is at or below the threshold value.
Maximum Tape
Loads Before
Warning
Sets the number of times a tape can be loaded into a tape drive before it reaches
the usage threshold you set. The default value is 10,000 loads.
When the number of tape loads reaches the specified threshold, a warning
message is generated. Subsequent loads do not generate additional messages.
