3M Abrasive Products
for nacelles, rotors, vanes, blades, shafts, and more.
For the many stationary and rotating components of
an engine, you can select an advanced abrasive prod-
uct most appropriate for your quality and production
requirements.  These include performance-proven
3M coated abrasives, 3M
Scotch-Brite
non-woven
abrasives and 3M micro abrasives and superabrasives.
Grinding and dimensioning
3M has the broadest selection available of coated
abrasive types and grades for rapid gate removal and
grinding of jet blade vanes, rotors and blades.
Deburring, blending, finishing and polishing
With Scotch-Brite non-woven abrasive wheels and
belts, controlled abrasive action helps prevent under-
cutting or gouging for less chance of affecting critical
tolerances. The wide product range allows you to vary
abrasive aggressiveness and conformability to meet
surface finish requirements.
Fresh abrasive is continually exposed to the work
surface for consistent finishes on jet blades, shaft and
hub surfaces, tubing, nacelles, and more.
Peening
The 3M TC 330 roto-peen flap assembly consists of
shot bonded to a flexible flap.  To straighten and
balance shafts, the flap is rotated at high speed so the
shot strikes the component with each revolution.  This
is cleaner and more precise than loose shot “blasting.”
Rotating hub deburring (above) –
Scotch-Brite cut and polish unitized wheel
deburrs and finishes while providing
uniform results quickly, cleanly.
Turbine blade finishing (above) –
Scotch-Brite surface conditioning belt
blends and radiuses the leading and trailing
edges of high nickel alloy turbine blades.
Heavy gate removal (above) –

belt quickly removes heavy
gates on blade for efficient grinding
operations.
Mechanical polishing (above)
Scotch-Brite light deburring wheel may be
easily automated for finishing of cylindrical
components.
Jet blade dove tail deburring (below)
Scotch-Brite EXL unitized wheel polishes,
deburrs and edge radiuses without
