In the Instant Messaging Shield dialog you can edit the 

 components

settings referring to instant messaging scanning. Currently the following three instant
messaging programs are supported: ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo - tick the respective item
for each of them if you want the 

 to verify the on-line communication is

virus free. 

For further specification of allowed/blocked users you can see and edit the respective
dialog (Advanced ICQ, Advanced MSN, Advanced Yahoo) and specify the
Whitelist (list of users that will be allowed to communicate with you) and Blacklist (
users that should be blocked).
