IMPORTANT NOTES
 • The FX84 battery is in use whenever the INPUT jack is
plugged in.  If you are not using the FX84, be sure to unplug
the cable from the INPUT jack.  This will prevent
unnecessary battery drain.
 • Remove the battery whenever the unit is not going to be
used for an extended period of time.  This will prevent
possible damage due to leaking battery fluids.
 • If the FX84 fails to switch in or out or the LED indicator
stays lit, the battery needs to be replaced.
 • Use of any AC adapter other than the DOD PS200R will
void the warranty of this product.
 • Unauthorized repair of the FX84 will void the warranty.
Should your FX84 require service, contact your DOD FX
pedal dealer for return / repair information.

WHAT
 THE FX84 DOES
The FX84 Milk Box compressor has formatable
compression, and has special high frequency expansion
circuitry.
The extra creamy compression the FX84 Milk
Box addes with the high frequency expansion
(PASTEURIZA
TION) allows you to completely control the
dynamics of your guitar.
You obviously haven’t settled for
any typical compressor pedal, so get full use of the FX84
by reading this manual (before operating it).
CONNECTING THE FX84
Connect your guitar to the input of the FX84.  Connect
the OUTPUT of the FX84 to your amp or to the input of
another effects device.
T o eliminate the need for a 9-volt
battery, attach the DOD PS200R to the
AC adapter jack.
FEATURES
LED indicator shows status of effect and battery
condition.
Active switching for noiseless operation.
Easy access battery compartment.
Adapter jack for AC operation.
Rugged die-cast metal case.
Three year limited warranty.
Rubber non-skid bottom.
CONTROLS
LEVEL: Controls the output level when the effect is on.
Turn it up for more volume and down for less volume. Use
the LEVEL control to match the ef
fect volume with the
bypass volume.
COMPRESS: Controls the amount of compression.  T
urn it
up for more compression and down for less compression.
When the COMPRESS is turned
up, the volume will slightly decrease. So, the QUARTS
control will have to be adjusted to compensate for the lost
volume.

HI EXP: Controls the amount of high frequency expansion.
Expansion will increase the high frequency content
depending how
hard you play.
The harder you play, the higher the
frequency boost your signal gets. T
urn the HI EXP control
up for more expansion,
and down for no high frequency expansion.
AT
TACK: Controls the attack time of the compressor
. T
urn
it up for more attack time and down for less.
FOOTSWITCH: Switches the effect in or out of the signal
path.
LED INDICAT
OR: Lights when the distortion is enabled,
and is not lit when the effect is bypassed.
JACKS: Input, Output, AC
Adapter (use the DOD PS200R
power supply only to eliminate the need for a 9 volt
battery).
OPERATION OF
THE FX84
The FX84 should be operated in front of an amplifier and
not in an effects loop. Since the order of the ef
fects are very
important, they should be
ordered as follows: 1 compression effects (DOD FX84), 2
Wah/volume and envelope filters (DOD FX17, FX25), 3
Distortion effects (DOD FX102,
FX69B), 4 EQs (DOD FX 40), 5 chorus, flanging, phasing,
vibrato (DOD FX 64, FX75C, FX22,), 6 Delay and reverb
effects (DOD DFX98, FX96).
T o set up your own sound with the FX84 start by turning the
HI EXP and
AT
TACK controls down, and turn the LEVEL

and  COMPRESS controls to 12 O’ clock.
Adjust the
COMPRESS, HI EXP , and
AT
TACK controls to the desired
levels, and adjust the LEVEL so the ef
fected signal volume
matches the bypass volume.
On the following pages, are examples of different types of
sounds, along with graphic representations of how to set the
knobs.  Since good (or bad) guitar sounds are a subjective
matter, use these examples as starting points to create your
own sounds that meet your specific tastes,
or lack thereof.
LIGHT COMPRESSION
Use this setting for a light compression sound. T
o do so turn
the LEVEL and COMPRESS controls to 12 O’
 clock. T
urn the
HI EXP and
AT
TACK controls down.
This will take those
annoying edges off, but not ef
fect anything else.
HEAVY
 COMPRESSION
T o squeeze every last bit, and just plain milk your guitar for
everything it’s worth, use this setting.
Turn the LEVEL
 to 12
O’ clock, the COMPRESS up, and the HI EXP
 and A
TT
ACK
down. Y
our guitar will sound squashed but will have endless
sustain.
BRIGHT HEA
VY COMPRESSION
If you want to squeeze your sound and give your high end
some brilliance, try this setting. T
urn the LEVEL to 12 O’

clock, the COMPRESS up, the HI EXP up, and
AT
TACK
down. Brilliant high end without your volume getting out of
control,  what more could you ask for?
