ROTOR- MODULE AIR GAP
PART NO. 18987
12/13/99/Rev. 1
The rotor module air gap must be set correctly to insure proper performance of the ignition system. If the air gap is too wide, the
weaker magnetic field, supplied by the rotor, may result in intermittent sparking under load or no sparking of the spark plug under
compression. If the rotor to module air gap is set too close it may result in hard starting or damage to the rotor and/or module. Anytime
the module mounting screws have been loosened or the rotor is remounted, the air gap should be set as follows:
1. Turn the rotor so that the rotor magnets are facing away from the module core legs.
2. Loosen the module mounting screws.
3. Insert a .015" non-metallic feeler gauge (Homelite Part # 22486), making sure that the .015" shim covers both module core legs.
4. Turn the rotor until the two magnets are adjacent to the module core legs, drawing the shim and module towards the rotor.
5. Tighten the two module mounting screws to the proper torque (30-40 in. lb.).
6. Remove the air gap shim.
