3.
Carefully pull the fuel hose back toward the fuel
filter. Hold the coupling insert over a open fuel
container and press the small white fuel end
with you finger allowing the contents of the
hose and filter to drain completely. Carefully
remove the cable tie securing the lower fuel
hose to the frame. Cradle the fuel filter in a dry
shop towel to absorb any residual fuel and
loosen the hose clamps on either side of the
filter. Remove the fuel filter. Wipe up and spill
fuel immediately.
4.
Install a new filter with the flow indicator molded
into the filter body pointing toward the fuel
pump. Make sure the larger diameter of the
filter ends are inserted into the hose ends.
Position the clamp over the larger filter ends
and tighten the hose clamps securely.
5.
Re-route the fuel hose back to the tank coupler.
Make sure the tab on the tank fitting is pressed
in. Inspect the coupler insert fitting O-ring for
damage. If the O-ring is damaged, fuel can leak
from the fitting. Be sure to replace a damaged
O-ring with a new one.
6.
Lubricate the fitting O-ring with some clean
engine oil and insert it until the coupling body
on the fuel tank clicks.
7.
Replace the two zip ties as indicated. Do not
pinch the hose when tensioning the tie. See
8.
Reinstall the removed components and check
the fuel system for any leaks. Take corrective
action if necessary.
9.
Check for proper throttle operation. It should
operate freely without sticking or binding in all
throttle positions. When released, the lever
should close automatically.
POTENTIAL HAZARD(S)
Fuel siphoning
Spilling fuel, leaking fuel system
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
Fuel is highly flammable, spilling it can cause
a fire or explosion. If you do not disconnect the
fuel hose from the left front (outlet) fitting of
the fuel tank before removing the inline fuel
filter, gasoline can siphon or “flow” from the
hose end. If the fuel is permitted to siphon, the
entire contents of the tank can spill out.
YOU CAN BE SERVERELY INJURED OR
KILLED IN A FIRE OR EXPLOSION.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Disconnect the fuel outlet fitting from the left
front of the fuel tank before removing the inline
fuel filter.
Work in a well-ventilated area free of cigarettes,
welders, torches, grinders, electric shop tools,
or sources that could ignite any spilled fuel
accidentally.
Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.
Have your fuel filter service by your
Cannondale dealer.
POTENTIAL HAZARD
Stuck throttle
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
When you replace the fuel filter, you MUST take
extra care and replace the zip ties securing the
fuel lines to the frame. These zip ties prevent
the fuel lines from contacting the throttle
bellcrank. If you do not re-secure the zip ties to
the frame as described in this update, the fuel
hose can contact the throttle mechanism
causing it to stick open or prevent it from
opening. You can lose the ability to control
accelerate and decelerate engine speed. You
can be injured or killed in an accident.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Replace the zip ties securing the fuel line to the
vehicle frame as described in this update. And
inspect the throttle operation before operating.
