To get rid of the background, simply select Copy under the Edit menu, hit 
Ctrl+C, or select the Copy Tool from the Standard Toolbar.  

Then paste your object into an already existing document by choosing Paste 
under the Edit menu (Ctrl+V) or paste your object into a new image using the 
Paste New Image (Ctrl+Shft+V) command.
