Power Bass: SUB 2080 D
The SUB 2080 D Subwoofer is a real
powerhouse which nonetheless
seamlessly blends into interior design,
due to its beautiful form.
A new feature: the 3 micro-controllers
that not only ensure smooth control of
the analogue electronics but also
support a new operating concept which
includes a remote control, a graphic
user-interface with high-resolution
display and 3-key control on the device
itself. The advantage of digital
technology is reflected in the low
standby power consumption of less
than 1 W.
Thanks to ELAC bass technology, the
subwoofer reproduces both quiet and
loud passages with extremely precise
and distortion-free bass sound.
Two powerful 250 mm AS woofers in
push-push / pull-pull configuration
ensure – driven by two ICEpower-Class
D amplifiers with a total output of 500
W – an enormously expressive, crisp
and precise bass sound with a
simultaneously very high performance.
The complementary arrangement of the
drivers ensures that the mechanical
impulses that are directed towards the
cabinet in a conventional design are
virtually eliminated. The enjoyment of
music is thus not disturbed by any sound-affecting cabinet vibrations. Even at high bass levels, a
champagne glass placed on the subwoofer remains unmoved.
A massive connecting shaft that rigidly fixes the two drivers to each other further reduces cabinet
vibrations that would otherwise have an adverse affect on sound quality. This subwoofer comes with
a universal range of connection options. It is possible to use up to three (!) loudspeaker inputs in
parallel (e.g. left, right and centre) and at the same time to
plug in the LFE connection for the surround receiver.
Furthermore, both symmetrical XLR inputs and symmetrical
XLR outputs with adjustable high-pass filter are provided for
high-fidelity stereo applications. Optimum bass reproduction
is thus assured in both stereo and surround sound modes,
almost irregardless of the settings for bass management in
the surround receiver.
Two parametric equalizers, whose frequency and
attenuation (or accentuation) can be adjusted via the graphic
user interface, ensure maximum flexibility in the selection of
installation location, as spatial resonance can be reduced or
frequencies with weak bass reproduction can be intensified.
The crossover frequency is also adjustable, maximising the
flexibility in the frequency response of the main
loudspeakers. In order to compensate for phase differences
between the satellite and the subwoofer – a result of the
wide variety of possible spatial arrays – the system is
equipped with a phase-switching option.
