DIN 33870
Standard set by the “Deutsches Institut für Normung” (Germany’s Standards Institute), which regulates the quality and reliability
of the recycling of monochrome Laser cartridges. Main requirements:
• Individual product traceability.
• Measurement of optical density and toner adhesion.
• AMES test to measure component toxicity.
NORDIC ECOLABEL
Scandinavian environmental label created in 1989.Main requirements:• Introduction of a system for returning used cartridges.
• Responsible management of production waste.• Identical level of quality to new cartridges.

of Monochrome Laser cartridges, adopted by most monochrome Laser printer manufacturers.Main requirements:
• Tests in a controlled environment: temperature and humidity.
• Yield tests on nine of each type of cartridge using three different printers.
ISO/IEC 19798
The technical standard developed by the ISO Committee and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to measure the yield
of Colour Laser cartridges, adopted by most colour Laser printer manufacturers. Main requirements:
• Tests in a controlled environment: temperature and humidity.
• Yield tests on three sets of four cartridges (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) on three different printers,
making a total of 36 cartridges tested.
