AVG offers t wo updat e levels t o select  from:

 Definitions update cont ains changes necessary for reliable ant i-virus,

ant i-spam and anti-malware prot ect ion. Typically, it  does not include any
changes t o t he code and updates only t he definition dat abase. This update
should be applied as soon as it  is available.

 Program update cont ains various program changes, fixes and improvement s.

When 

, it  is possible t o select  which priorit y level should be

downloaded and applied.

You can distinguish bet ween t wo t ypes of updat e:

 On demand update is an immediat e AVG updat e t hat  can be performed any

t ime t he need arises.

 Scheduled update - wit hin AVG it  is also possible t o 

The planned updat e is t hen performed periodically according t o t he setup
configuration. Whenever new update files are present on t he specified
locat ion, t hey are downloaded either direct ly from t he Internet, or from t he
net work direct ory. When no newer updat es are available, nothing happens.

The update process can be launched immediat ely as t he need arises by t he Update
now 

. This link is available at all t imes from any 

 dialog.

However, it  is still highly recommended t o perform updat es regularly as st at ed in t he
updat e schedule edit able wit hin t he 

 component .

Once you start  t he update, AVG will first  verify whet her t here are new update files
available. If so, AVG st arts t heir downloading and launches t he update process itself.
During t he updat e process you will get  redirect ed t o t he Update interface where you
can view t he process progressing in its graphical representation as well as in an
overview of relevant st at istic paramet ers (update file size, received data, download
speed, elapsed time, ...).
