Place the wrapped technical manuals on top of the sealed
w a t e r p r o o f   w r a p p i n g   p a p e r   l i n e r   a n d   s e c u r e   t h e m   w i t h

w a t e r p r o o f   p r e s s u r e - s e n s i t i v e   t a p e .

Nail the wooden cover in place.

F o r   i n t e r t h e a t e r   s h i p m e n t ,   s e c u r e   t h e   w o o d e n   s h i p p i n g

box with metal strapping.

T h e   d e s t r u c t i o n   p r o c e d u r e s   o u t l i n e d   i n   p a r a g r a p h   4 9   w i l l   b e

used to prevent the enemy from using or salvaging this equipment.

Demolition of the equipment will be accomplished only upon the

order of the commander.

A n y   o r   a l l   o f   t h e   m e t h o d s   o f   d e s t r u c t i o n   g i v e n   b e l o w   m a y   b e

u s e d .   T h e   t i m e   a v a i l a b l e   w i l l   b e   t h e   m a j o r   d e t e r m i n i n g   f a c t o r
for the methods to be used when destruction of the equipment is

u n d e r t a k e n .   T h e   t a c t i c a l   s i t u a t i o n   a l s o   w i l l   d e t e r m i n e   i n   w h a t

manner the destruction order will be carried out.

a. Smash.  S m a s h   m e t e r s ,   s w i t c h e s   a n d   c o n t r o l s ,   t h e   i n s t r u m e n t

p a n e l   a n d   c h a s s i s ,   t u b e s ,   c a p a c i t o r s ,   r e s i s t o r s ,   t r a n s f o r m e r s ,   t h e
roll chart housing, and the case; use sledges, axes, handaxes, pick-

axes, hammers, crowbars, or heavy tools.

b. Cut.  Cut cords and wiring; use axes, handaxes, or machetes.

c .   B u r n .   B u r n   c o r d s ,   w i r i n g ,   t h e   t u b e   t e s t   d a t a   r o l l   c h a r t ,   a n d

t e c h n i c a l   m a n u a l s ;   u s e   g a s o l i n e ,   k e r o s e n e ,   o i l ,   f l a m e t h r o w e r s ,   o r

i n c e n d i a r y   g r e n a d e s .

d. Bend.  B e n d   t h e   p a n e l ,   c a s e ,   a n d   c h a s s i s .

e. Disposal.  Bury or scatter the destroyed parts in slit trenches,

foxholes, or other holes, or throw them into streams.
