Besides all the software technology packed

inside the machine to save time and increase

quality, the CanoScan 9900F comes with a

complete software package to meet your

scanning needs. These include Adobe

PhotoShop Elements v2.0, with which you can

perform basic corrections and retouching as

well as add a wide variety of special effects to

personalise your images. 

It further includes ArcSoft PhotoStudio,

PhotoBase for image storage and retrival,

OmniPage SE OCR and NewSoft PageManager 6

document management software.

WHAT  YOU  SEE  IS  WHAT  YOU  SCAN

The CanoScan 9900F lets you select colour

calibration (ICC) profiles for your input (type of

original) and target printer, so your print output

is true to the scanned original. ICC profiles are

the most precise way to achieve exact colour

reproduction. 

ENHANCED  FILM  ADAPTOR  UNIT

A long-standing challenge to the industry has

been to create a large, light-efficient Film

Adaptor Unit. Canon has made the breakthrough

by combining curved and flat reflective plates to

increase the light condensing rate. Combined

with other design improvements the FAU is

extremly large without compromising brightness

— it allows up to 24 individual 35 mm frames

to be scanned in a single operation.

CANON LENSES — SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE

The CanoScan 9900F incorporates the Super

Galileo 2 lens — actually a telephoto lens array

— consisting of a group of convex lenses on the

document side and concave lenses on the

charge-coupled device (CCD) side. Although

just a fraction of the size, its precision is similar

to 600 mm telephoto lenses used by professional

photographers. Canon’s experience in lens

design and optics contributes greatly to the

image quality of the 9900F.

A new hybrid motor supporting high speeds

and high resolutions allows for super-fast scan

previews — in about three seconds!

The CanoScan 9900F uses Film Automatic

Retouching and Enhancement technology,

employing a number of clean-up steps to your

film scan before you even start working on it.

Traditionally this would require hours of manual

retouching in photo-editing software. Infrared

light combines with an advanced software

process to remove dust and scratches on the

surface of your original. 

Two new advancements add to dust and scratch

removal: Reconstruction of Colour, and Grain

Equalisation and Management. Reconstruction

of Colour restores hues and tints, even if the

colours have faded on your original. Finally,

Equalisation and Management takes out any

grain that is very visible on high resolution

scans of high-ASA film.

FAST  MULTI-PHOTO  MODE

Place several negatives on the glass plate, scan

them and what do you get? With any standard

scanner, a ‘picture’ of all the negatives. With

Canon’s fast Multi-photo mode, you get

separate image files which you can adjust,

incorporate into documents or e-mails, or save

to a CD-ROM — separately. The scanner

automatically detects film types and creates

index images for multiple 35 mm films

instantly. This saves you crucial scanning time 

— up to 24 35mm frames can be generated

from a single operation. Of course, it works the

same way for reflective originals.
