AE Lock
To set exposure for a subject that will not be in the focus frame in the fi nal composition:

Position the subject in the focus frame.

Meter exposure.
Press the AE-L button to meter exposure for
the subject in the focus frame and then,
keeping the AE-L button pressed, press the
shutter button halfway to focus. Focus and
exposure will remain locked while the shut-
ter button is pressed halfway, even if you
later release the AE-L button.
