In Linux/Unix you can manage an application by creating special control files. 
.c_stats  
Display application status statistics. 
.c_recv_on 
Start the Receiver module.

Stop the scanning module. 
.c_send_on 
Start the Sender module.

To initiate an action, create a file with the corresponding name in the directory 
specified as the value for the ControlPath parameter in the [smtpgw.path] 
section. The application will periodically check this directory for known control 
files, execute the corresponding command from that file, and then delete the file. 
A.6. Application statistics 
Following the stats command of the control script (see section 6.8 on p. 75) the 
application logs its performance statistics (from the moment of application startup 
till its state in the current moment) to a text file, specified by the StatFilename 
option in the [smtpgw.options] section. 
This txt file contains a set of lines in the following format: 
parameter_name=parameter_value 
The table below lists the names and values of the application status parameters.
