f) Conversion to automatic two-speed transmission (optional)
Function and setting of two-speed transmission
Two pinions with a different number of teeth are tightly screwed onto the clutch bell. The two main pinions on the centrifugal clutch are connected with each other
via a one-way bearing. The shift point depends on the revolutions. In the first rate of speed the engine speed is transmitted from the small pinion on the clutch
bell onto the bigger toothed wheel on the drive section, the toothed wheel for the second rate of speed runs idle. At high speeds the centrifugal force causes the
lever of the centrifugal clutch to be pulled outward towards a spring resistance and the attachment on the toothed wheel grips into the second rate of speed. The
engine speed is now transmitted via the larger pinion of the clutch bell to the smaller toothed wheel in the drive section, the toothed wheel in the first rate of speed
is running via the one-way bearing. The shift point of the two-speed transmission can be adjusted.
Mounting of two-speed transmission
When mounting the two-speed transmission, apart from exchanging the center differential (main pinion), the clutch bell also has to be exchanged for a clutch bell
with two pinions. Remove the RC mounting plate and disassemble the main pinion and the center differential as described above.
Changing of clutch bell
• Loosen the E-ring from the engine shaft and pull the clutch bell off towards the front.
• Take out the ball bearing and insert it in the clutch bell of the two-speed transmission. Slide the clutch bell with the two pinions onto the engine shaft and secure
it with the washers and the hexagon socket head screw.
• Place the two-speed transmission between the cardan shaft bearing case and the brake holder and screw the RC mounting plate together again:
• Check the alignment and the tooth backlash of the drive again.
If you are changing your vehicle’s gear transmission ratio (as a tuning measure) and only want to exchange the clutch bell for a clutch bell with a
different number of teeth, then the RC mounting plate and the main pinion (center differential) do not need to be disassembled.
In this case it is sufficient to loosen the four screws of the engine mount and to push the engine in a way so that the clutch bell can be pulled off.
g) Setting the switching moment on the two-gear transmission
Function of the Two-Speed Transmission
Two pinions with a different number of teeth are tightly screwed onto the clutch bell. The two main pinions on the centrifugal clutch are connected with each other
via a one-way bearing. The shift point depends on the revolutions.
In the first driving stage, the engine revolution speed is transmitted by the smaller pinion on the clutch bell to the larger cogwheel on the power train. The
gearwheel for the second gear travels along. At high speeds the centrifugal force causes the lever of the centrifugal clutch to be pulled outward towards a spring
resistance and the attachment on the toothed wheel grips into the second rate of speed. The engine speed is now transmitted via the larger pinion of the clutch
bell to the smaller toothed wheel in the drive section, the toothed wheel in the first rate of speed is running via the one-way bearing. The spring resistance of the
centrifugal clutch, and with it the switch point, can be adjusted with a headless screw.
• Put down the model so that the wheels can turn freely.
• Turn the main pinions on the two-speed transmission until the clearance
in the cover of the two-speed transmission is visible. You can access
the headless screw from the right.
• Turning in the screw: The spring preload is increased.
Higher revolutions are needed so that the attachment to grips. The
transmission switches later.
• Unscrewing the screw: The spring preload is lowered.
Lower revolutions are needed so that the attachment grips. The
transmission switches earlier.
If you are a beginner and are facing problems with the driving speed, we
recommend that you postpone the switch point until the model does not
switch into second gear at all.
