Selecting a Mounting Location
Your telephone connects directly to a modular
telephone line jack. If your telephone wiring does not
have a modular jack, you can update the wiring
yourself using jacks and adapters (available at your
local RadioShack store or online at
www.radioshack.com), or have the telephone
company update the wiring for you. You must use
compatible modular jacks that are compliant with Part
68 of FCC Rules and the requirements adopted by the
ACTA. The telephone cord and modular plug provided
are Part 68 compliant for connecting to the telephone
company network.
For single line phones:
The USOC number of the jack to be installed is
RJ11C (or RJ11W for a wall plate jack).
For 2 line phones:
The USOC number of the single-line jack to be
installed is RJ11C (or RJ11W for a wall plate jack).
The USOC number for a two-line jack is RJ14C
(or RJ14W for a wall plate).
Mounting and Connecting the Phone
To mount your phone on a wall plate, do the following:
1. Plug one end of the supplied short modular cord
into the line jack at the back of the base.
Note: Coil any excess cord inside the compartment below the line jack at the back of the base.
2. Plug the other end of the cord into a wall plate jack.
3. Align the base’s keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the phone downward to secure it.
Connecting to the Handset
Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the handset’s modular jack. Then, connect to the jack on the bottom of the base.
Setting the Ringer
If you don’t want to hear the phone ring, slide RINGER  to OFF. You can still make calls with the ringer off and you can still
answer calls if you hear another phone on the same line ring. If you want to hear the phone ring, set RINGER to HI or LO.
Setting the Dialing Mode
Slide the TONE/PULSE to the setting for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which type you have, perform this
simple test.
1. Slide TONE/PULSE to TONE. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone.
2. Press any number except 0. If your phone requires that you dial an access code (9, for example) before you dial an outside
number, do not press the access code number.
If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. Set the switch to TONE.
If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set the switch to PULSE.
Making a Call
1. Pick up the handset and wait for a dial tone.
2. Use the keypad to enter the number you wish
to dial.
3. Hang up the handset when you complete
your call.
Note: The phone features a lighted keypad for
dialing in a dark room.
Receiving a Call
When you receive a call, the phone rings. To
answer the call, pick up the handset.
Adjusting the Handset Volume
To adjust the handset volume before or during a
call, tune HANDSET VOL to NORM or HI
Choose your most comfortable listening level.
Using Flash
Flash performs the electronic equivalent of a
switch hook operation for special services, such
as Call Waiting. For example, if you have Call
Waiting, press FLASH to answer an incoming call
without disconnecting the current call. Press
FLASH again to return to the first call.
Notes:
If you do not have any special phone
services, pressing FLASH might disconnect
the current call.
Pressing FLASH does not hang up the
system.
Using Redial
To redial the last number you called, pick up the
handset and press REDIAL when you hear a dial
tone. The phone automatically dials the number.
Using Mute
To talk to someone near you without the person
you’re on the phone with hearing your
conversation, hold down MUTE. Release MUTE
when you are ready to resume your conversation.

Your phone complies with Part 68 of FCC Rules and the requirements adopted by the
ACTA. On the back of this product is a label with this product’s FCC Product Identification
number in the format US:AAAEQ##TXXXX. If requested, you must provide this
information to the telephone company.
Note: You must not connect your phone to:
• coin-operated systems
• most electronic key telephone systems
• party-line systems
Connection to party line service is subject to state tariffs. Contact the state public utility
commission, public service commission, or corporation commission for information.
We have designed your phone to conform to federal regulations, and you can connect it
to most telephone lines. However, each phone (and each device, such as an answering
machine) that you connect to the telephone line draws power from the telephone line. We
refer to this power draw as the device's ringer equivalence number, or REN on the
bottom of your phone.
If you use more than one phone or other device on the line, add up all of the RENs. If the
total is more than five (three in rural areas), your telephones might not ring. If ringer
operation is impaired, remove a device from the line.
In the unlikely event that your phone causes problems on the phone line, the phone
company can temporarily discontinue your service. If this happens, the phone company
attempts to notify you in advance. If advance notice is not practical, the phone company
notifies you as soon as possible and advises you of your right to file a complaint with the
FCC.
Also, the phone company can make changes to its lines, equipment, operations, or
procedures that could affect the operation of this telephone. The telephone company
notifies you of these changes in advance, so you can take the necessary steps to prevent
interruption of your telephone service.
Please follow instructions for repairing if any (e.g. battery replacement section); otherwise
do not alternate or repair any parts of device except specified.
NOTICE: If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone
line, ensure the installation of this phone does not disable your alarm equipment. If you
have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone
company or a qualified installer.
This equipment is hearing aid compatible.
Lightning
Your telephone has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in
telephone line and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC
requirements. However, lightning striking the telephone or power lines can damage your
telephone.
Lightning damage is not common. Nevertheless, if you live in an area that has severe
electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your phone when storms approach to
reduce the possibility of damage.
