The Shooting Menu: Shooting Options
Choose the flash mode for the built-in flash in PSA, and M 
modes.
Option
Description
On
The AF-assist illuminator lights when lighting is poor (for 
more information, see page 331).
Off
The AF-assist illuminator does not light to assist the focus 
operation. The camera may not be able to focus using 
autofocus when lighting is poor.

Flash output is adjusted automatically in response to 
shooting conditions.
Manual
Choose a flash level. At full 
power, the built-in flash has 
a Guide Number of 
approximately 12/39 (m/ft., 
ISO 100, 20 °C/68 °F).

flashes in the information display when
