Application Description
Bonding and protecting through-hole components in the printed circuit board
assembly operation.
Application Method
For best results, clean the surface first with mix of isopropyl alcohol
and water (50/50 mix).  Apply the tape by hand.  Note:  Follow the solvent
manufacturer’s precautions and directions for use when handling solvents.
Key Application Requirements
Ability to absorb and damp vibrational energy, and withstands
IR reflow temperatures.
Benefits/Advantages To Customer
Shock resistant: 3M
VHB
Tapes have the ability to absorb energy during
impact which can help protect component leads.
Vibration resistant: The energy absorbing 3M VHB tapes can help prevent
fatigue failure of the solder connection in many high vibration environments.
Resistant to Freon
®
cleaning: 3M VHB tapes have excellent solvent
resistance and can maintain a bond through harsh conditions of most
Freon cleaning operations.
Resistance to temperature extremes and thermal shock: 3M VHB tapes offer
excellent temperature performance in many demanding applications in
temperature extremes.  3M VHB tapes have passed thermal shock tests of
hourly cycles from -40° C to 150° C for 1000 hours.  These tapes can also
tolerate most IR reflow process conditions.
Compatible with conformal coating: Components bonded in place with 3M
VHB tapes can be conformal coated without adverse degradation of the tape’s
adhesive and physical properties during the process.
Die-cuttable: 3M VHB tapes are easily die-cut to many specific shapes for
ease of handling during the assembly process.
