Using the Motion Digitizer Pen
NOTE: The Function button
and eraser functionality of the
pen are not enabled when
used with the Touch Screen
Tablet PC.
NOTE: For best results, we
recommend that you calibrate
your pen before using it for the first time. For information about this and other
pen procedures, refer to “Calibrating and Using Your Pen” on page 27.
The Motion Digitizer Pen contains internal electronics that enable you enter digital
ink on the Tablet PC display. The pen is a sensitive, electronic, data-entry device
designed specifically to be used with the Tablet PC display. The pen contains a pen
function button (not functional for touch screen), used for right-clicking (like a
mouse). The other end of the pen serves as an eraser (not functional for touch
screen) in applications that support an eraser.
The Touch Screen Tablet PC provides a hover mode which enables you to move
the pointing device (finger or pen) and screen cursor without making a selection
(click, or click and drag). This is helpful when navigating menus. For more
information about the hover mode, see “Touch Screen Tablet PC” on page 74.
The pen contains no batteries and requires no external power. The pen has a small
opening at one end for attaching a tether cord. Using the tether (provided) helps
prevent pen loss; attach it to the built-in tether post on the upper right edge of the
Tablet PC. The pen also comes with user-replaceable tips and a replacement tool.
For information about replacing the tips, refer to the Care and Maintenance
information in Chapter 3.
