REACTIVE LIGHTING technology
The lamp has two modes of operation: the constant mode (sensor off) and
the REACTIVE LIGHTING mode (sensor on). With its light sensor and built-in
intelligence, the lamp adapts its beam pattern and power according to the
light perceived by the sensor. The REACTIVE LIGHTING technology gives you
the benefit of optimal lighting and rechargeable battery life for your activities.
Lamp operation
Switching on & off, brightness selection
The button works in two ways:
- short pulse: turn and release
- two second long pulse: turn, hold two seconds, then release.
Refer to the drawings for more on button functionality.
When you turn on the light, it automatically lights up in REACTIVE LIGHTING
mode.
Attention: the LOCK position does not turn off the lamp be sure to turn it off
before using the LOCK.
In REACTIVE LIGHTING mode, when the sensor detects an area with
sufficient light, your lamp will blink dimly for two minutes, then automatically
turn off to conserve rechargeable battery life.
Lighting performance - battery life
In constant mode, the lamp offers regulated lighting (constant brightness
during the entire given battery life).
In REACTIVE LIGHTING mode, the battery life varies with use as the lamp
adapts its power depending on the light perceived by the sensor. *For
this mode, we communicate a battery life range that is representative of
that encountered in the field by most users. Battery life depends on many
factors: ambient light, environment, use, temperature, etc. The battery life
can vary between 1h20 to 50 hours (for level 1) depending on usage.
The results listed in the table were obtained under laboratory conditions.
Note that conditions in the field will generally favor higher performance.
OS by Petzl - personalizing your lamp
Your lamp comes with the «multi-activities» profile. A lighting profile
corresponds to a set of parameters:
- power/battery life of each level,
- the distribution of power between the wide and narrow beams,
- the number of levels per mode.
There are other profiles with light settings specifically adapted for certain
activities, such as mountaineering or running.
By downloading the OS by Petzl software at www.petzl.com/OS, you can:
- select other existing profiles (a maximum of four can be stored in your
lamp),
- modify existing profiles: power and/or battery life and additional lighting
levels,
- create profiles specific to your activities.
Once your lamp is personalized, it will perform according to the profile
chosen on OS by Petzl. Use a memo card to record your saved profiles and
put it in the rechargeable battery case (profile number one is always the
multi-activities profile).
You can switch between profiles stored in your lamp by following the steps
below:
1- 10 second long pulse: turn the button and hold it ten seconds, then
release.
2- Your lamp emits one or more flashes. The number of flashes corresponds
to your lamp’s current profile number.
3- Scan the different profiles by using successive short pulses. The flashes
indicate the lamp’s current profile number.
4- When you are on the desired profile, do a 10 second long pulse (same
as step 1) to select it. The lamp emits a luminous signal when the profile is
active.
Lamp precautions
The lamp is not recommended for children.
Warning, do not use your lamp in REACTIVE LIGHTING mode for road biking.
(Risk of lamp switching off when encountering a car with its headlamps on)
Eye safety
- Do not look directly at the lamp when lit.
- The optical radiation emitted by the lamp can be dangerous. Avoid
aiming the lamp’s beam into another person’s eyes.
- Risk of retinal damage from the emission of blue light, particularly in
children.
The lamp is classified in risk group 2 (moderate risk) according to the
IEC 62471 standard.
- If the lamp is at a distance of more than 175 cm from the eyes, it goes to
risk group 1 (low risk).
- If the lamp is at a distance of more than 208 cm from the eyes, it goes to
risk group 0 (no risk).
Charging the rechargeable battery
The lamp comes with a Petzl Li-Ion rechargeable battery.
Capacity: 2300 mAh.
Charge it completely before first use.
Use only an ACCU NAO Petzl rechargeable battery.
In general, Li-Ion rechargeable batteries lose 10 % of their capacity each
year. They can be recharged 300 times (after 300 charge cycles, they will still
have about 70 % of their initial capacity).
Use the rechargeable battery at temperatures between -30 °C and +50 °C.
Warning, though this lamp is constructed of high quality plastic, it can
become fragile at extreme temperatures.
Charging
Recharge only with a USB 5 V charger, for example:
- Petzl USB E93110 charger (allows charging from 110-220 V wall socket or
car cigar-lighter socket).
- Computers (they must be turned on and in use).
- Solar panels with a USB 5 V output (preferably panels delivering at least
5 W or 1 A for faster charging). Warning, protect the sensor’s lens from
overexposure to the sun to avoid damaging the sensor.
- Portable power supply.
Warning
Recharge only with a USB cable. The charger voltage must not exceed 5 V.
Use only a CE/UL approved charger.
Recharge time
The charging time is:
- 3-4 hours on the Petzl USB charger.
- 5-6 hours on a computer. Attention, if many USB devices are connected to
your computer, the charging time can increase (up to 24 hours).
During charging, the three bars on the energy meter will blink. Charging is
done when the three bars are lit.
Rechargeable battery temperature must be between 0 °C and 40 °C for the
charge to be effective.
Charge/discharge indicator
The energy meter lights for 10 seconds when your lamp is switched on or
off.
It indicates the battery charge level.
- Three green bars: rechargeable battery charged 66 to 100 %.
- Two green bars: rechargeable battery charged 33 to 66 %.
- One green bar: rechargeable battery charged 0 to 33 %.
When the last bar begins to blink, the lamp emits a light signal to indicate
that it is in reserve mode (30 minutes).
Replacing the rechargeable battery
Use only an ACCU NAO Petzl rechargeable battery. Using another type
of rechargeable battery can damage your lamp. Do not use another
rechargeable battery.
Attention, when you unplug and then re-plug a rechargeable battery (only
