6-2. Service Valve Construction
·Valve Position -a-
The valve stems of both the wide and narrow
tubes are turned all the way in. The unit is
shipped from the factory in this position.(Fig.41a)

·Valve Position -b-
The valve stems of both the wide and narrow
tubes are turned all the way out (“ BACK SEAT”
position). This is the normal operating position.

·Valve position -c-
With the narrow tube valve kept at BACK SEAT,
only the wide tube valve stem is turned to the
halfway-down position. This position is used for
pressure measurement and gas charging. (Fig.41c)

6-3. Pump Down
“Pump down” means collecting all refrigerant in
the outdoor unit without loss of refrigerant gas.
Pump down is used when the unit is to be relocated
or the refrigerant circuit is serviced.

Pump down procedure
Be sure to carry out pump down in cooling operation
(1) Connect a low-pressure gauge manifold hose to
the charge port on the wide tube service valve.
(2) Lower the stem of the wide tube service valve
to position -c- and purge the air from the
manifold hose using the refrigerant gas.

(3) Turn the narrow tube service valve all the way
in (position -a-).
,
(4) Turn on the unit s operating switch and start
cooling operation.
CAUTION
(5) When the low-pressure gauge reading falls to
2
1to 0.5 kg/cm , fully close the wide tube valve
stem (position -a-), and then quickly turn off
the unit . At that time, pump down has been
completed and all refrigerant gas will have been
collected in the outdoor unit .
