In Figure 1, a branch office Cisco 3620 or Cisco 3460
with the NM-1ATM-25 installed, connects to an external
ADSL modem (CAP or DMT) to provide connection through
an ADSL cloud to the branch office HQ.
Connection speeds from the HQ can be up to 8Mb/s,
and to the branch, connection speeds of up to 1Mb/s are
available. The actual connection speeds are related to the
type of DSL equipment being utilized, the type of service
used, and the distance from the branch office to the DSLAM.
Physical Characteristics
The ATM Network Module has one ATM User- Network
Interface (UNI) port, each with a standard throughput rate of
26.5 Mbps full duplex. The ATM NM is compatible with the
ATM Forum 25.6-Mbps physical sublayer (PHY)
specification for unshielded twisted-pair (UTP), Category 3
(UTP-3), or shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable plants.
The NM-1ATM-25 network module is supported in
both the 3620 and 3640 platforms. One ATM Network
Module is supported in the 3620, and two ATM Network
Modules are supported on the 3640.
The ATM Network Module requires any of the “Plus”
versions of the Cisco IOS
®
 11.3(3a)T.

• Up to 4096 VP/VC
• Full ASDL Data Rates
• IETF PPP over ATM in CY98.
SVC, AAL1, and LANE features are not currently supported.
