Improved graphics handling
When importing SVG graphics, 
FrameMaker retains the original vector-
based format in print and PDF. 
FrameMaker supports the direct import of 
native Photoshop and JPEG 2000 files.
New fonts
FrameMaker includes several new Adobe 
fonts.

If you are migrating from FrameMaker ver-
sion 6.0 or earlier, you will benefit from the 
following key features that were originally 
introduced in FrameMaker 7.0.
Choice of authoring modes
Choose structured mode, which provides all 
of the capabilities of the former 
FrameMaker+SGML product, for authoring 
XML or SGML documents. If you do not 
need stuctured authoring, choose the 
unstructured mode to work in a simpler 
interface. Change your preferred mode 
through the Preferences dialog box.

XML Import and Export
Import, validate, and export XML files and 
DTDs and, new with FrameMaker 7.2, XML 
Schema. This functionality fully supports 
“XML roundtripping”.
CSS Export
Automatically generate CSS style definitions 
for your XML files.
Sample XML Applications
Four sample XML applications ship with 
FrameMaker software, providing support 
for three industry standards: DITA 1.0 (new 
with FrameMaker 7.2), DocBook 4.1, 
xDocbook 4.1.2, and XHTML.
Learning Support
The XML Cookbook, is included with 
FrameMaker to help users learn to work in 
the structured authoring environment.

Expanded Conversion Options with 
WebWorks Publisher Standard Edition
Work with SVG graphics and publish to 
Microsoft Reader and eReader for Palm OS 
formats. Choose to output raster versions of

Associate master page usage to a particular 
paragraph tag or element. This added func-

The number of available running header 
and footer variables has been increased to 
12 to support the most complex documents.
Simpler Format Import
The Import Formats dialog includes a new 
Select/Deselect All button.
New Templates
FrameMaker software includes a selection 
of book templates and structured templates, 
available in the template browser and on the 
CD.
Improved UNIX Font Management
New capabilities include a wider selection of 
fonts in the TrueType, OpenType®, and 
Type 1 formats, expanded printer support 
for Asian users, and simplified font installa-
tion.
Updated Microsoft Office Filters
The file import filters support RTF 1.6 and   
Microsoft Word and Excel versions through 
Microsoft Office XP.
Imported Graphics Resizing
FrameMaker software allows you to resize 
an imported graphic based on its original 
size.
Updated Placed PDF Support
Import PDF and native Illustrator 9.0 and 
later graphics file formats on all platforms.
SVG Import Support
Import Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files 
into FrameMaker and (in version 7.1 and 
7.2) retain their original vector-based for-
mat in print and PDF. During conversion to 
XML or HTML, the SVG code can be passed 
through directly for optimum viewing of 
vector graphics on the Web, or you can 
choose to save your SVG graphics in a ras-
terized format (GIF, JPG, or PNG) for Web 
viewing.
Server Version Available
FrameMaker is available both for individual 
desktop users and for workgroups in multi-
user networked environments. FrameMaker 
Server enables the power of the 
FrameMaker formatting engine to be 
deployed in a server-based environment, for 
use in applications such as database pub-
lishing and personalization. FrameMaker 
Server can be used to publish in any sup-
ported language.
