Catlin Arctic Survey
With the ‘eco ideas’ strategy, Panasonic is
promoting environmental activities which contribute to preserving the world we
live in. As a part of the Panasonic ‘eco ideas’ strategy in Europe, the company
is sponsoring the Catlin Arctic Survey (CAS). The international collaboration
between polar explorers and scientific bodies seeks to resolve one of the
most important environmental questions of our time: How long will the Arctic
Ocean’s sea ice cover remain a permanent feature of our planet? The Arctic is a
global temperature regulator, with many delicately balanced relationships that
have the potential to seriously amplify the impact of climate change around
the world. Our support has been contributing to enable the CAS polar explorers
to collect valuable scientific data about the real thickness of the ice and snow
cover. Those data will help scientists to make precise analyses and predictions
about the future development of the Arctic as one of the most sensitive regions
in our world – especially with view to its unique ecosystems and species, such
as polar bears.
