j (Programmed auto)
Use for automatic control of the exposure by the 
camera.
• Different combinations of shutter speed and 
aperture value can be selected without 
changing the exposure by rotating the 
command dial (“flexible program”). While 
flexible program is in effect, a flexible program 
mark (A) is displayed next to the mode indicator (
j) in the upper left of the 
monitor.
• To cancel flexible program, rotate the command dial until the flexible 
program mark (A) is no longer displayed. Changing the shooting mode, or 
turning off the camera, also cancels flexible program.
k (Shutter-priority auto)
Use to shoot fast-moving subjects at a fast shutter 
speed, or use to emphasize the movements of a 
moving subject at a slow shutter speed.
• The shutter speed can be adjusted by rotating 
the command dial.
l (Aperture-priority auto)
Use to bring subjects including both the 
foreground and background into focus or blur 
the subject’s background intentionally.
• The aperture value can be adjusted by rotating 
the multi selector.
m (Manual)
Use to control the exposure according to 
shooting requirements.
• When adjusting the aperture value or shutter 
speed, the degree of deviation from the 
exposure value measured by the camera is 
displayed in the exposure indicator of the 
monitor. The degree of deviation in the 
exposure indicator is displayed in EVs (
2 to +2 
EV in increments of 1/3 EV).
• The shutter speed can be adjusted by rotating the command dial and the 
aperture value can be adjusted by rotating the multi selector.
