Setting the Screen Lockout Time
The screen lockout time can be set from 1 to 30 minutes with a default of 15 minutes. To set a new
lockout time, perform the following steps:
1. Use the arrow keys to highlight the Screen Lockout Time field.
2. Enter a number from 1 to 30.
3. Press ENTER to set the lockout time in the input field.
4. Use the arrow keys to highlight the SAVE command at the bottom of the screen and press
ENTER.
If the time entered is within the 1 to 30 minutes range, the message “SAVED OK” displays at the
top of the screen. If the entry is not valid, Local Management does not alter the current setting, but
it does refresh the Screen Lockout Time field with the previous value.
5.2.10 Configuring the COM Port
Upon power up, the COM port is configured to the default settings of ENABLED and LM.
The COM port supports the following applications:
Local Management connections
American Power Conversion (APC) Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) connections
To configure the COM port, proceed as follows:
1. Use the arrow keys to highlight the Com field.
CAUTION: Before altering the COM port settings, ensure that the switch module or
chassis is set with a valid IP address. (Refer to
.) Read this entire COM
port configuration section before changing the settings of the COM port.
CAUTION: Do NOT disable or alter the settings of the COM port while operating the
current Local Management connection through a terminal. Altering the COM port
settings disconnects the Local Management terminal from the port, and ends the Local
Management session. If the switch module was previously assigned a valid IP address,
reenter Local Management by establishing a Telnet connection to the module. If the
module does not have a valid IP address and the COM port has been disabled or the
settings changed, reset NVRAM on the switch module using Mode Switch 7 to
reestablish COM port communications. For details about Switch 7 and its operation.
refer to the switch module hardware user’s guide shipped with your switch module.
