When EAPOL is enabled, all ports except the backplane ports, transition to the state that was 
previously set in the Port Authentication LM screen (the default for this screen is the AUTO state). 
This is accomplished by the module placing the port into the spanning tree blocking state, which 
allows only BPDU frames to be passed to the host.

When a VLAN is created, the module “Auto Backplane VLAN Configurator” populates the 
Backplane egress ports as a default. However, the inter-switch links need to be added manually to 
each port when configuring each VLAN.

Password > Main Menu > Security > Port Authentication

To enable or disable an authentication type on the module, and to display the authentication type 
and authentication status (enabled or disabled) for all ports.

Use the arrow keys to highlight the PORT AUTHENTICATION menu item on the Security 
Menu screen and press ENTER. The Port Authentication Configuration screen, 

, 

displays.

NOTE: The inter-switch links must be set manually. Otherwise, the links will not be 
authenticated and will remain in the blocking state. If all inter-switch links are not set 
properly, the spanning tree function and end-to-end connectivity of the switch fabric are 
adversely affected.
