Configuring PPPoE on a Cisco 806 Router
When specifying the method of authentication while configuring PPPoE and connecting to a Service 
Provider, the optional argument might be required to successfully authenticate the connection. For 
example: 
interface Dialer0
 ppp authentication pap optional
or
interface Dialer0
 ppp authentication chap optional
Caveats
Caveats describe unexpected behavior in Cisco IOS software releases. Severity 1 caveats are the most 
serious caveats, severity 2 caveats are less serious, and severity 3 caveats are the least serious of these 
three severity levels.
