Hardware and Software Requirements 
Before installing the Alarm Manager software, be sure that your system meets the 
following hardware and software requirements. These requirements were addressed 
when you filled out the diagram and checklist in Chapter 1. However, our engineers 
request that you reconfirm your system's eligibility by reviewing and verifying the 
software and hardware requirements listed in this section. 
 
Network Management Interface Software 
Your DNCS must meet the following requirements to support the NMI software: 
 
SR 2.2 or SR 3.2 Service Pack 2 or later, software installed 
 
Port 5161 available for use to receive Simple Network Management Protocol 
(SNMP) requests 
 
Port 5162 available for use to receive SNMP traps 
 
Can ping Alarm Manager server(s) by hostname and IP address 
 
Alarm Manager Server Software 
Before installing the Alarm Manager server software, be sure that your system meets 
the following minimum hardware and operating system (OS) requirements: 
 
Systems supporting fewer than 100,000 deployed DHCTs

256 MB memory 
-
 
400 MHz CPU 
-
 
One 18-GB (or larger) disk drive 
-
 
2 Ethernet adapters 
-
 
Solaris 8 OS (end user installation preferred, must have X-Windows 
capability)

Port 3050 available for database use by the Alarm Manager server 
-
 
Port 5161 available for use to receive SNMP requests 
-
 
Port 5162 available for use to receive SNMP traps 
-
 
Port 5901 available for communications with the DNCS 
Note:  The Alarm Manager server must have network connectivity to the 
Alarm Manager client PCs that connect to the server, as well as to the DNCS.
