Key Application Requirements
High initial and ultimate bond strength; easy to apply; temperature resistant
(-40° to 200°F/-40° to 93°C); aesthetically pleasing (smooth look); ability to
damp vibrations.
Product Replaced
Liquid adhesives had been previously used. This process was slow and
involved clean-up after placing the plastic trim on the skin of the door.
Benefits/Advantages To Customer
Easy to use, quick to apply: 3M
VHB
Tape is applied to the cleaned surface
of the backside of the trim and pressurized. The liner is removed and the taped
trim piece is applied and pressurized to the metal door skin.
Aesthetically pleasing: The VHB tape system of attachment provides a clean,
smooth finish to the trim. Metal corrosion concerns are eliminated.
Long-lasting: Specially formulated adhesive and tape construction provide a
strong, lasting bond between the trim molding and the door skin.
Helps damp vibration: The viscoelastic properties of the foam core help damp
vibration between the trim molding and the door skin during operation of the
door.
Versatile: VHB tapes offer a wide selection of adhesive systems that allow
bonding the trim to the bottom of the door either before or after the painting
process. 3M
VHB
Tape 5952 bonds well to most painted metals and plastics
without surface priming or abrading. The specially formulated synthetic
adhesive bonds to most paints and powder coats.
