Using headphones
Listening clearly at low volume
• This function compresses the dynamic 
range of Dolby Digital contents.
• Without affecting the sound field, the 
function makes spoken lines easier to 
catch at low volume by reducing the 
difference between the maximum and 
minimum sounds created by audio signals. 
This convenient function allows you to 
enjoy commercial sources late at night 
when you cannot produce big sounds.
1 Select and confirm the choice.
2 Select a setting and confirm the choice.
This function does not work when disc data does not
support it.

• Adjust audio timing to video timing by 
delaying audio output by 40 msec or 
so when pictures arrive after sounds.

When you select “
YES ”, the input source becomes TUNER  (preset channel 1).
Preset radio stations will not be erased.
1 Press [SPEAKERS A] and [SPEAKERS B] to 
switch all speakers off. 
2 Lower the volume by turning [VOLUME, –, +] 
and connect headphones to the unit.
Plug type: ø 6.3 mm (1/4") stereo standard plug
3 Adjust the volume by turning [VOLUME, –, +].
• Avoid listening for prolonged periods of time to prevent hearing damage.
• Playback channels become two when you switch all speakers off.
The 2-channel mix (2CH MIX) function activates automatically when
you play a surround source. (Excluding DVD-Audio sources that do
not allow down-mixing.)
• The DVD ANALOG 6CH (á page 27) goes off and front two
channels make audio output when you play sources through analog
6-channel connections (á page 18).
