High performance SAN access
Fujitsu PRIMERGY Connection Blades simplify
network connectivity for PRIMERGY Blade Servers.
They ensure fast and reliable access to data
and storage networks. All Connection Blades
are integrated within the blade server chassis
and benefit from a high-speed midplane as well
as from energy-efficient power and cooling. A
wide range of different Connection Blades are
available to address current and next-generation
I/O requirements for standards-based Fibre
Channel, InfiniBand and Ethernet networks.
PRIMERGY BX400 system units support up to 4,
PRIMERGY BX900 up to 8 Connection Blades, thus
implementing flexible and scalable connections
in order to meet the requirements arising from
dynamic workloads.
Today’s technological specifications offer speeds
of up to 8 Gbit/s for Fibre Channel, 56 Gbit/s
InfiniBand, 6 Gbit/s SAS, and up to 10 Gbit/s for
Ethernet connections per Uplink port. All the facets
of Connection Blades are available, from highly
functional self-developed models to brand models
from Cisco, Brocade or Mellanox to be able to cover
todays and future I/O requirements.

Blade Server and Fibre Channel SANs form an ideal
infrastructure for maximizing consolidation and
server virtualization benefits. By connecting blade
servers and SAN switch platforms of the highest
density Fujitsu and Brocade offer extraordinary
performance, reliability and flexibility.
PRIMERGY BX Blade Servers can benefit from the
technology used in the Brocade DCX Backbone via
the Brocade scwitches. The advantages: more end-
to-end performance, higher service quality (QoS)
and availability management. These extended
fabric services simplify SAN management and
automate administrative tasks, thus maximizing
perfomance and availability.
As a result of the low number of SAN components
and without any additional fans or power supply
units, the Brocade 5450 reduces SAN complexity
and avoids many of the usual HW failures.
Extended SAN management, redundant I/O paths
and the hot-plug design mean that the PRIMERGY
BX blade servers have the highest availability and
failsafe levels.
Up to 18 internal server blade ports are
consolidated to a maximum of 8 shared SAN ports.
This greatly reduces the number of cables, SFPs
and core fabric ports.
Only half the number of ports and Inter-Switch
Links (ISLs) are required for the same workload
with enough reserve for growth and expansion.
Using the doubled bandwidth of 4 Gb networks,
each server blade can host more virtual machines,
thus guaranteeing greater performance and
availability.
