5-8 Troubleshooting Problems

Unable to Communicate with the Wireless Print Server

—During Initial Setup:

Verify the following:

Your wireless computer is configured to match the default wireless network settings on 
the print server:

Communication Mode:

Ad Hoc

Network Name (SSID):

hpsetup

Encryption (WEP):

[disabled or turned off]

Note

The Network Name (SSID) is case-sensitive; be sure to use lowercase characters.  
If you make a error in entering the SSID, encryption, or authentication configu-
ration, you may be unable to connect to the access point and join the network.

If your connection fails after entering one of these configuration items, then you 
must reset the print server to factory-default settings (“cold reset”), according to 
the procedure on page 5-14), then reenter the correct configuration.

The print server is turned on and operating properly (print a configuration page).

There are fewer than six devices total on the ad hoc network (with SSID

hpsetup

).

There is no access point in the vicinity that is configured with SSID

hpsetup

. 

There are not multiple print servers that are being configured at the same time. If so, 
turn all off except the one you want to configure.
