Q. What is the maximum memory the Cisco 2500 supports?
A. The maximum amount of memory the Cisco 2500 will support is 16 MB Flash and 16 MB DRAM. Flash and DRAM details follow:
Flash:
The Cisco 2500 has two Flash SIMM slots which can hold either 4 or 8 MB Flash SIMMs, for a total of up to 16 MB. If two Flash SIMMs
are used, they must match, that is, they must both be either 4 or 8 MB. (We do not offer a 16 MB Flash SIMM for the Cisco 2500.) No onboard
(motherboard) Flash exists on the Cisco 2500. In order to have 16 MB of Flash, the customer needs to purchase 2 x 8 MB SIMMs (part
number: MEM-1X8F=).
DRAM:
The Cisco 2500 has one SIMM slot for DRAM. DRAM is available in either 4, 8, or 16 MB SIMMs. Currently-shipping Cisco 2500s have
no DRAM on the motherboard. Because the Cisco 2500 has only one SIMM slot for DRAM, DRAM is not additive. Therefore, if you want
to upgrade DRAM from 4 MB to 16 MB, you must remove the 4 MB SIMM and replace it with the 16 MB SIMM (part number:
MEM-1X16D=)
