Motor- Bike Microphone / Headphone Combinations

The motor-bike helmet mic /phone combinations are  designed for motor-bike radio communication via hand held radios
(and, if equipped, via motor bike intercom system or via navigation instruments)
The combinations depend on model name (see description or remarks on gift box) and may consist of

•
integral helmet set  CHS 300  with internal helmet microphone or open helmet set OHS 500 / OHS 550 with
external microphone

•
connecting cable set with waterproof push-to-talk switch, suitable for the 2 way radio / intercom or
navigation instrument  BHS 300 is equipped with double connectors 2.5 mm (mic ) and 3.5 mm (headphones)
and can be used for most larger 2 way radios and some navigation systems (e.g. Garmin Zumo), while BHS
301
has only 1 common 2.5 mm stereo connector, which is used by many smaller PMR 446 radios. BHS 303 is
designed to be used exclusively as passenger- intercom cable together with ALAN 456 R.

The helmet sets have very flat, soft and convenient headphone speakers and a microphone to be placed in the bike
helmet. Mic, phones and the internal connection cables shall be fixed via adhesive pads and velcro fastening to be
installed  inside the helmet. Please take care, that the thin internal wire connections remain always inside the helmet.
Only the thick cable end with the waterproof connector shall come out of the helmet.

The cable set contains the waterpoof connectors to the PTT button, which shall be fixed at a suitable place, e.g. on the
handle bar. All parts can be easily removed and attached several times.
The microphone shall be attached at the helmet as near as possible to the mouth, but please take care that no excessive
wind noise will be picked up by the microphone.

Installation: Please fix the earphones in the helmet so, that You obtain a not too short distance between phones and
ears. For traffic safety reasons, even after fixing the earphones, You must still be able to hear what happens around You.
Please avoid any modification of Your original helmet during installation. Modifications inside the helmet may effect
the ECE approval
of the helmet. If You should use a radio which produces not adjustable beep tones, it may be
necessary to increase the distance between ear and phone position in the helmet accordingly. To protect Your ears,
please test the position and the volume adjustment at the radio and GSM phone carefully beginning with lower levels.
Connect the cable connectors from MIC/Earphone and PTT key set to the multi-pin connectors of the cable set, and the
other cables to the radio or other equipment. To avoid accidental wrong connections, the cable set uses different
connector types, which fit only to the correct accessory items.

In case of Navigator installation please connect the separated 2.5 mm / 3.5 mm plugs of the BHS 300 cable set into the
navigator’s headset sockets. A GSM phone may be coupled to the Navigator via Bluetooth wireless connection.
Navigators like Garmin Zumo can transfer GSM phone calls through the navigator to the headset and also transmit the
navigator announcements or traffic information to the headset.

Plug the 2 way radio cable (depending on models, this can be a combined  3.5 / 2.5  mm plug or a common 2.5 mm
stereo plug or a 3.5 mm intercom plug)  into the earphone and mic sockets of Your radio or navigation system.
There is no need for any battery, the set is powered by the radio.
The supplied waterproof PTT button shall be always used as talk button.
If You press the transmit button, Your voice will be automatically transmitted via the 2-way radio. Release the transmit
button to receive the answer of the distant station.

Important notes:
The motor bike set with the PTT key shall not be used for VOX operation of 2 way radios.  Different from handsfree
talking in GSM networks, where only 2 partners talk together, in 2-way radio communication systems only 1 station is
allowed to speak and all others must listen at the same time. There is a larger risk to disturb other stations if using a
voice operated control instead of a PTT button. We sincerely recommend to use such VOX systems only in slow traffic
situations and never in high speed scenarios.

The sets are in conformity with  the European standards of the EN 301 489-X series for direct connection to commercial
and amateur hand held radios and have the CE- marking.
