Surveillance Station is a web-based application that can manage IP cameras to safeguard your home or office 

environment. With Surveillance Station, you can watch and record live view videos, set up scheduled recording, 

playback recorded events via web browser, VisualStation, or mobile device for remote monitoring. Notifications 

can also be sent to you whenever important events occur. 
This chapter explains how to manage IP cameras, watch and record live view videos, set up scheduled recording, 

playback recorded events, and use all the other comprehensive features provided by Surveillance Station. 

Go to

 to install Surveillance Station. 

Under the 

 tab, click 

 to install the package. 



  If there is only one volume on your DiskStation, you will be asked if you want to run the package after 

installation. Click 

 to continue. 



  If there are multiple volumes on your DiskStation, you will be asked to choose from the drop-down menu to 

specify a destination volume to install the package.  
a  Select your destination volume and click 

. 

b  Tick 

 if you want to run the package once the installation is complete, and click 

 to install the package. 

When the installation is complete, the package will be moved to the 

 tab and the 

 will 

automatically expand with the package’s thumbnail on it. Moreover, the 

 shared folder will be 

created automatically to contain your Surveillance Station data. The shared folder is read-only and can be 

accessed only by 

admin or a user belonging to the administrators group. 



  Go to 

 and click

  Type Synology DiskStation's IP address or server name or domain name plus a colon and the customized port 

number (e.g. http://ericawang.dyndns.org:9900) in the address bar of your web browser. Press “Enter” 

(Windows) or “Return” (Mac) on your keyboard. 

Surveillance Station will be launched in a new browser window. 

Before watching events or live views with Mac Safari, do the following to make sure your browser settings are 

appropriate:  
1  Make sure your Safari is updated to version 5.1 or onward.  
2  Go to 

 menu > 

 and check for any possible Java updates to make sure your Java 

applet is up-to-date. 

3  Go to 

 > 

, and then open 

 to do the following:  



  On the list of Java applications, make sure the version of Java SE is 1.6.0_26 or onward.  



  Move the 32-bit version of Java SE to the top of the application list (above 64-bit).
