- Reset the lamp monitor and enable lamp monitoring (KLR and KLE)

- With the junction signals on, check that the voltage and current readings are as
expected on each input (KAC)

- Check that all lamps are working, including wait indicators

Allow the LMU to learn the lamps and check that learning is complete (KLS)

Note:  If dimming is fitted to the controller, force the signals to dim and allow the
LMU to learn the lamps in the dim state.

A more detailed description of junction learning and lamp failure checking is
provided in the following sections.

6.4.4.1  Junction Self Learning during Commissioning
Force the controller to cycle round all the stages (e.g. by switching into fixed time
mode) and initiate learning using the KLR and KLE commands.

To be sure that each controller output has been learnt, at least three complete
cycles should be allowed. Note: Some controllers may have outputs (phases)
which only appear under certain conditions. The commissioning engineer may
decide to force these to appear (where possible) to ensure they are learnt before
leaving the site.

Once an output has been learnt the LMU will commence monitoring automatically.

During the learning cycle the commissioning engineer should walk around the
junction pressing any pedestrian push buttons that have wait indicators with them,
and checking that there are no lamp failures already present on the junction. Any
failed lamps should be replaced after the junction has been learnt.

Note: It is not necessary to invoke the self learning function again if a faulty lamp
is found during the engineer's inspection of the junction, as the lamp
monitor will automatically adjust to the new situation when the lamp is
replaced.

The above sections describe the minimum requirements for installing an LMU. The
following give details of extra procedures and tests to improve the reliability of, and
confidence in the lamp monitor installation.

6.4.4.2  Learning the Other Dim/Bright State
The sequence above will have learnt the characteristics of the junction in one of
the controller states (dim or bright). To completely learn the junction the controller
should be switched to the other state, i.e. to dim if already in bright or vice-versa,
and again 3 complete cycles of each controller output should be allowed.
