Fujifilm’s printable media gives your CDs and DVDs a truly professional finish. Create
sharply printed discs that give a good impression, make multiple copies with ease or
personalise your home CDs and DVDs. Whether you are a large or small volume user our
guide will help you choose the right printable disc for your needs.
What is the difference between the types of printable disc available?
Our range of printable media are designed to be used with their respective printers. Each type of
printer prints in a different way and the surface of the disc being used requires certain qualities.
The Fujifilm range of printable CDs and DVDs are designed to meet everyone's needs. Our
general
range is
packed in retail packaging in spindles of 25 (also spindles of 10 for printable DVD-R) for home and small
business users. Our
professional
range is available in larger quantities of 100 which come in either spindles or
shrink wrapping. Our professional range offers superior print quality and a fast drying surface to prevent the ink
from transcribing.

The most common and popular disc
printers are inkjet. The technology
found inside these is the same as
standard inkjet paper printers – i.e.
droplets of ink are applied to a
printable surface. Inkjet disc printers
are used in a variety of systems with
varying price points, from stand alone
£100 printers through to £4000
automated solutions. With inkjet
printers, the quality of the printable
surface often has a far greater role
to play on image quality rather than
the printer itself, it is therefore
important to consider the media
carefully.

Where simple printing on white-
surface discs is required a thermal
printer is used. Thermal disc printers
are fast, relatively cheap to run and
offer permanent printing onto the
surface of the disc. However they are
restricted in their output by their
method of printing since they usually
use a ribbon that is just one colour,
supporting line art and text only.
Overprinting is possible where more
than one colour is required however
colours cannot be printed directly
over another. Thermal printers are
ideal for high volume simple printing.

Thermal Re-transfer disc
printers are capable of
printing much higher
resolution photo type
quality prints. They use
heat and pressure to
bind a very thin
thermal transfer
onto the top of the
CD or DVD. The
thermal transfer
applied image is
permanent and
durable. It will be
resistant to abrasion
and waterproof.
