SYMPTOM
POSSIBLE CAUSE
CORRECTIVE ACTION
3. [j] blinks on the front display 
panel.
• The timer is engaged but there is no 
cassette loaded.
• [TIMER  (j)] has been pressed when 
there are no programs in memory, 
or the timer recording program has 
not been set correctly.
Load a cassette with the record safety 
tab intact, or with the hole covered 
with adhesive tape.
Check the programmed data and set 
again if necessary, then press [TIMER 
(j)] again.
4. [j], [X] and [E] on the front dis-
play panel will not stop blinking 
when the timer is engaged.
• The loaded cassette has had its 
record safety tab removed.
Remove the cassette and cover its 
hole with adhesive tape, or replace it 
with a cassette on which the safety 
tab is intact.
5. The cassette stops automatically, 
and [j], [X] and [E] on the front 
display panel will not stop blink-
ing.
• The tape reaches its end during 
timer recording.
The program may not have been 
recorded in its entirety. Next time be 
sure you have enough time on the 
tape to record the entire broadcast.
6. Cable channels are not automati-
cally switched during timer 
recording.
• The Controller is not properly 
connected to the VCR.
• The input channel selected on the 
Cable Set Up screen is incorrect.
• The cable box is turned off.
Connect the Controller correctly
(A page 22).
After confirming your cable box’s 
input channel number, re-access the 
Cable Set Up screen and select the 
correct number (A page 23).
Make sure the power is on before 
timer recording starts.
7. Satellite channels are not auto-
matically switched during timer 
recording.
• The Controller is not properly 
connected to the VCR.
• The input channel selected on the 
DBS Receiver Set screen is 
incorrect.
• The VCR is not set correctly to 
control the DBS receiver.
• The DBS receiver is turned off.
Connect the Controller correctly
(A page 25).
After confirming your DBS receiver’s 
input channel number, re-access the 
DBS Receiver Set screen and select 
the correct number (A page 26).
Set the correct DBS receiver brand 
code (A page 27).
Make sure the power is on before 
timer recording starts.
8. Timer recording begins as sched-
uled, but the channel is always 
incorrect.
• Even though you do not use an 
external cable box or DBS receiver, 
on the Cable Set Up screen or DBS 
Receiver Set screen, “INPUT CH” is 
set to “ON”.
Set “INPUT CH” to “OFF”
(A pages 23, 26).
9. You moved, and now VCR Plus+ 
system does not work properly.
• The receivable stations in the new 
area are received on different 
channels than those in the previous 
area.
Re-perform the Changing VCR Plus+ 
Setting procedure (A page 42).
10. “PROGRAM FULL” is displayed 
on the screen.
• All 24 programs of the VCR’s timer 
memory are used.
Wait until a space in memory clears, 
or cancel unnecessary program 
information (A page 46).

appear for the currently inserted tape.
• The current tape inserted has not 
been recorded on this VCR.
Tape information cannot be shown if 
it has not been recorded on this VCR.
