D3119  Board Straighteners
™ 
How to Use Your Board Straighteners
™ 
To hold and cut an irregular-edged board without the use
of a jointer, do these steps and see
Figures 1 and 2.
1.  Choose  a  straight  and  square
piece of
1
2
" thick wood for the
guide board, which is the same
length  or  longer  than  the
workpiece  you  will  cut;  and
make a

16
" deep by 1
1
2
" wide
rabbet cut the complete length
of your needed guide board.
2.  Position the guide board and workpiece to either side of
the
Board Straighteners
as shown in Figure 1.
3.  Tighten the thumbscrews until the boards are securely held.
For long boards–use additional
Board Straighteners
DO 
NOT over tighten the thumbscrews.
4.  Slide  the  guide  board  against  the  fence  and  make  your
first  cut,  remove  the  workpiece  from  the
Board
Straighteners
,  and  put  the  freshly-cut  side  of  the
workpiece against the fence and make your second cut.
The workpiece is now square.
Introduction
You can now cut straight boards from irregular-edged
boards  without  using  a  jointer!  The  SHOP  FOX
®
Model D3119 Board Straighteners
hold a board with
an  irregular  edge  to  a  guide  board  with  a  known
straight edge. This stable arrangement can then be slid
along the table saw fence, producing a straight cut on
the irregular board.
• READ  and  UNDERSTAND  this  instruction 
sheet  and  your  table  saw  instruction  manual 
before you use Board Straighteners
. Otherwise, 
serious personal injury may occur. 
• If you are using BOARD BUDDIES
®
 or any other 
anti-kickback device on your table saw, make sure 
that  no  interference  or  unsafe  condition  exists  if 
used in conjunction with Board Straighteners
.
• Always use two or more Board Straighteners
™ 
 to 
hold the workpiece to the guide board; otherwise, 
the boards can slip apart, causing kickback. It is 
often better to use too-many Board Straighteners
™ 
 
than too-few.
• ONLY  use  Board  Straighteners
™ 
for  holding  an 
irregular-edged board to  a guide board for cutting 
on  your  table  saw.  Board  Straighteners
™ 
are  not 
designed for cutting warped boards, which do not 
sit  flat  on  the  table.  DO  NOT  modify  Board 
Straighteners
™ 
for any other task, but rather, use 
“C”  clamps,  vises,  jigs,  and  bar  clamps  for 
associated clamping and gluing needs.
