To initialize (format) the player
Be sure to format the built-in flash memory using the “Settings” menu on this 
player, following the procedure below. (Check all contents before formatting, as all 
data stored will be erased.)

  Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the HOME menu 
appears.

  Select 
 (Settings) – “Initialize” – “Format” – “OK,” in this order.
Press the / button to select the item, and then press the  button to 
confirm.
After selecting “OK” and confirming, “FORMATTING…” appears and 
formatting starts. When formatting is complete, “COMPLETE” appears.

Follow the instructions below if a message appears in the display.

AVLS (blinks)
The volume level exceeds the 
rated value while 
“AVLS(Volume Limit)” is 
enabled.
Turn the volume down or disable 
“AVLS(Volume Limit)” ( page 44).

CANNOT EXCUTE
•  You are trying to preset/
delete broadcast stations 
while the player is not in the 
FM function.
•  You are trying to change the 
equalizer setting while the 
Bass function is activated.
•  Change the function to “FM”, and then 
preset/delete broadcast stations.
•  Disable the Bass function, and then change 
the equalizer setting.
CHARGING
The battery is being charged.
This is not an error. Wait until the battery is 
charged fully. However, you can use the 
player with the battery not charged fully.
DATA ACCESS
Accessing the built-in flash 
memory.
This message appears while the built-in flash 
memory is being accessed. Please wait for 
access to complete.
DRM ERROR
An unauthorized distribution 
file is detected for copyright 
protection.
Transfer the normal audio file back to the 
computer and then format the built-in flash 
memory.
EXPIRED
You are trying to play a song 
that has an expiration/
playback time restriction.
If the song which cannot be played is 
unnecessary, you can delete it from the built-
in flash memory.
