A new group cannot be 
created.

• This is due to the MiniDisc system limitations (in MD mode only). 

Group information has been written to the area where the disc name 
is stored. The disc name and track names are recorded in the same 
area, which can store a maximum of approximately 1,700 
characters. If the total number exceeds this amount, it is impossible 
to make group settings.

The recorder is not 
recognized by the 
computer.

• The supplied USB cable is not firmly connected.

, Connect the USB cable firmly to the recorder and the computer.

• A USB hub is used.

, Connect the USB cable directly to the USB port of the computer.

• Network communication has failed.

, Disconnect the USB cable, wait at least 2 seconds, and then 

reconnect it. If the recorder is still not recognized, disconnect the 
USB cable, restart the computer, and then connect the USB cable 
again.

When using Windows 2000 Professional, you turned on or restarted the 
computer while the supplied USB cable was connected, and then 
disconnected it afterwards.

, Disconnect the USB cable, restart the computer, and then reconnect 

the USB cable. This problem may be resolved by updating your 
Windows operating system so that it contains all the latest features.

Charging by USB

• The battery compartment lid is not firmly closed.

, Reinsert the rechargeable battery and close the battery compartment 

lid firmly.

• The temperature of the battery-charging location is too low or too high.

, Charge the rechargeable battery within a temperature range of +5°C

°F) to +35°C (+95°F).

The rechargeable 
battery cannot be 
charged sufficiently 
through USB bus 
power.

• The rechargeable battery is charged through USB bus power.

, USB bus power only charges temporary and cannot charge the 

rechargeable battery sufficiently. Disconnect the recorder from the 
computer and charge the rechargeable battery using the AC power 
adaptor.

Even though the 
recorder is 
recognized by the 
computer, it does not 
operate normally.

• A USB hub is used.

, Connect the supplied USB cable directly to the USB port of the 

computer.

• You are using the recorder at a place with vibration.

, Use the recorder at a place with no vibration.

The recorder cannot

• The SonicStage or MD Simple Burner software is active.

, Close the SonicStage or MD Simple Burner software.

• A disc which is not used in Hi-MD mode is inserted.

, Insert a disc used in Hi-MD mode. Only discs used in Hi-MD mode 

can be used as a storage media.
