SNELL’S 3rd GENERATION IN-WALL LCR, A ZERO COMPROMISE
MUSIC AND THEATER MONITOR.
In 1990, Snell built the world’s first fully enclosed in-wall LCR. Like better
freestanding monitor’s it had accurate, predictable bass, pinpoint imag-
ing, detail, and startling dynamics. Unlike all open-backed in-walls it
minimized sound leakage to adjacent rooms, and was a very competent
alternative to bulky, obtrusive in-room speakers… and it smoked. Two
generations later, Snell’s chief engineer, Joe D’Appolito reconfigured the
800 Series to feature the his famous D’Appolito Array. The Snell AMC 830
borrows the 5 1⁄4 D’Appolito Array from its in-room brother, the LCR7,
which includes two very long excursion woofers mounted over and under a
low resonance 1-inch silk dome tweeter. The result is a design which aligns
the output from all three drivers to a single point, for remarkable clarity
and soundstage. Other features include Snell’s three-layer baffle for re-
duced wall resonance, and high order crossover for reliable hi-output use.
Like all Snell speakers the AMC 830 is hand-tuned to match its reference
master by .5dB.
