As part of Toshiba’s e-STUDIO4520c/3520c/2820c family,
the
e-STUDIO3520c
is the mid-range unit in this office color
MFP large-format family, and is designed for multi-user
offices and mid-sized workgroups. Introduced in July 2008,
the
e-STUDIO3520c
series is among Toshiba's newest and
fastest products that print, copy, scan and fax while
incorporating the company's next generation e-BRIDGE
controller which is designed to provide more efficient
processing and multi-tasking. The
e-STUDIO3520c
 also
offers a new Replaceable Unit design, which is intended to
keep maintenance downtime to an absolute minimum.
BERTL recently tested the
e-STUDIO3520c
 which was
developed completely in-house by Toshiba with a list price
of $16,999 (as a digital copier/network printer). The
e-
STUDIO3520c
is the high-end system in the series and is
rated at 35 ppm monochrome and 35 ppm color, with a
maximum paper capacity of up to 3,700 sheets.
The new Toshiba high-volume color line features a large,
adjustable 8.5” Super WVGA touch screen for quick and
easy access to copying, printing, scanning, faxing and e-
filing features, and a new two-part developer delivery
system that automatically replenishes developer into the
system as new toner is introduced, eliminating the need to
install or maintain developer for the projected life of the
MFP.
Toshiba’s next generation e-BRIDGE controller offers
enhanced document security with its Advanced Encryption
Standard (AES) hard disk encryption, IPv6, IPSec,
SNMPv3 and 802.1x network authentication, protecting the
document workflow all the way to the network. The
e-
STUDIO3520c
series includes Secure PDF, enabling users
to password-protect documents when creating scanned
PDFs, to prevent unauthorized viewing or printing. In
addition, the new color MFP series support printing from
and scanning to a USB flash storage drive, and support
full-color banner printing of sizes as large as 47 inches
wide and 12 feet long.
It’s also important to note that while the Toshiba
e-
STUDIO3520c
features standard network printing, it may be
equipped with an optional EFI Fiery controller (Fiery Image
Controller System 8e).  This controller which is suitable for
customers with more demanding printing applications, such
as graphic-intensive applications will be available early
next year.
In the following test report, BERTL takes an in-depth look
at the e-STUDIO3520c, testing and evaluating its
productivity, image quality and ease-of-use.
