Upgrading procedure
To upgrade the program, use the following procedure. In case that an unexpected fault occurs during down-
loading, you must set up network boot. Be sure to do this for safety.
(1) Preparations
(2) Set up network boot and save the settings
(3) Delete the current program file
(4) Download the new program file from the TFTP server
(5) Check that the downloaded file is normal
(6) Delete the network boot settings and save the new settings
(7) Restart the In-Skin Router
NOTE 1:
After you have updated the program file, you must restart the In-Skin Router. A restart will
cause automatically created statistical information, routing table information, and other infor-
mation to be lost.
NOTE 2:
Network boot via a PPP or PPPoE line is not supported. To upgrade the program via a PPP or
PPPoE line, omit steps (2) and (6).
Preparations
Execute the ping command on the TFTP server to check that the network between the In-Skin Router and
the TFTP server is normal.
Use the write memory command to save running config as startup config.
MEMO:
In case that a fault occurs, use the show running-config or show startup-config command to dis-
play startup config or running config, then save it to a log file on the editor.
Setting up network boot and saving the settings
In case that a fault occurs, set up the In-Skin Router so that it can be restarted over the network, and save
the settings.
The reason why this step is required is that if an automatic restart occurs for some reason (such as turning
the power OFF and ON) while the new program file is being downloaded, the program file in flash memory
may be destroyed, making the In-Skin Router unable to start.
